The Rt. Rev’d B.C Okeke, Bishop of Orlu Anglican Diocese, has urged the government of Imo State and the Federal Government of Nigeria to find and prosecute those responsible for the desecration of St Peter’s Anglican Church in Eziama Obaire.

“Desecrating the House of God is a direct affront and challenge to God Almighty,” Bishop Okeke said.

The Bishop of Orlu Diocese declared the following in a press statement made available to ACNN TV:

According to information accessible to me, on Sunday, December 26th, 2021, a group of heavily armed men stormed the premises of St Peter’s Anglican Church Eziama Obaire in the Diocese of Orlu, interrupting a divine and solemn Church service.

Several gunshots were fired, disturbing the ceremony and scattering the Church membership.

According to reports, the shooting team kidnapped Church parishioner Chief Uche Nwosu, who was in the Church for an excursion service for his late mother, who had just been buried by the Church on December 22nd, 2021.

Regardless of the basis for our parishioner’s detention, the entire affair represents a grave attack on the Anglican Church and the entire Church of God.

We strongly condemn this heinous act and call on the Imo State government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to investigate the incident and guarantee that those responsible are held accountable.

The Rt. Rev B.C Okeke Jp
Bishop of Orlu Diocese Anglican Communion.
