Zamfara Under Siege: Residents Flee As Bandits Unleash Terror

Zurmi town, the administrative center of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State, witnessed a terrifying attack by bandits, compelling numerous residents to flee their homes for fear of their lives.

The armed criminals reportedly descended upon Zurmi at approximately 5 pm on Tuesday, unleashing indiscriminate gunfire. Babangida Mohammed, a resident, recounted the ordeal. He stated that citizens sought refuge in nearby bushes, while others secured their homes to evade the violence perpetrated by the marauding bandits.

Expressing concern over the situation, Mohammed emphasized the insufficient number of military personnel deployed to the town. He lamented that despite the ongoing attacks, the bandits roamed freely, posing a significant threat to the safety of the community.

“We are in a pathetic situation because the military personnel sent to fight the bandits are not enough,” Mohammed stated. “The bandits are currently occupying the town and shooting sporadically while the soldiers are also pursuing the bandits.”

He pleaded with security agencies to intervene promptly, stressing the urgency of the matter. Mohammed pointed out that the bandits, numbering significantly, appeared undeterred by the presence of military personnel.

“The bandits are in large numbers, that is why they are not afraid of the military personnel who are here to foil the attack,” he remarked.

As of the time of filing this report, no response from any security agency in the state has been received, leaving the community in a state of anxiety and uncertainty about their safety.
