Yahaya Bello Denies Assassination Attempt

Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, vehemently refuted rumors and reports circulating about assassination attempts on his life. Reports suggesting such attempts had emerged on social media platforms, but Governor Bello, in a statement from Abuja over the weekend, dismissed these claims as false and urged people to disregard them.

He clarified that the incident was merely a minor disagreement between his personal security team and the military personnel responsible for road protection. He emphasized that there was no actual attempt on his life and explained that the altercation arose during the lawful execution of their security duties by both the Nigerian Police Force attached to his convoy and the military unit overseeing the highways.

The Governor commended the joint efforts of security agencies in enhancing the safety of the citizens and their property in Kogi State.

However, he called upon the high command of these agencies to investigate any instances of overzealousness or unprofessional conduct by their personnel involved in the incident and apply appropriate sanctions.

Governor Bello urged the people of Kogi State to remain unaffected by political opportunists who might use this incident to disturb the peace as the state’s 2023 governorship elections approached on November 11.

He assured the state of his safety and the sufficiency of security measures to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.
