Where I Learned To Speak Yoruba – Teni Reveals

Renowned singer, Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, has revealed that she acquired proficiency in speaking Yoruba while in America by watching Yoruba movies on YouTube. Despite her Nigerian Yoruba background, she shared that this unconventional method helped her connect with her native language.

During a recent episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, the 31-year-old artist disclosed this aspect of her language learning journey, stating, “Do you know how I learnt to speak Yoruba? It was when I went to America. I learnt it from YouTube. I was watching Yoruba films like mad.”

In the same interview, Teni opened up about starting to consume alcohol in 2021, emphasizing that her decision to do so was purely for recreational purposes.

In another development, the singer shared her challenging experience with a life-threatening throat infection in July while recording her second album. Despite the doctor’s advice for surgery, she opted for alternative medical assistance and successfully recovered her voice, expressing gratitude for her restored health in November.
