Suspected Killer Of Rivers DPO Arrested In Bayelsa

YENAGOA, November 18, 2023 – Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have apprehended a key suspect in the murder of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Bako Angbashim in Rivers State. The suspect, identified as Onyekachi Ikowa, 43, and believed to be the second in command of the notorious Icelander cult group, was captured in Yenagoa on Saturday.

According to CSP Asinim Butswat, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, the arrest was made based on credible intelligence indicating that Ikowa had sought refuge in Yenagoa after his alleged involvement in the heinous murder of SP Bako Angbashim in September 2023. The suspect had reportedly fled from Rivers State.

In an official statement, Butswat stated, “The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Francis Iduh, has charged police operatives to fish out any of his cohorts who are hiding in Bayelsa State. He stressed that the Bayelsa Command, under his watch, would not be a haven for criminals to hide.”

The arrested suspect, Onyekachi Ikowa, has been handed over to the Rivers State Police Command for further investigation. The pursuit of justice continues as law enforcement authorities work diligently to bring all perpetrators involved in the killing of SP Bako Angbashim to account.

This development marks a significant step in addressing the security challenges posed by cult groups and criminal elements, reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the region.
