Standoff at Oyo College as EFCC Operatives Face Resistance from Staff and Students

The EFCC said that seven of its workers were supposedly attacked and kept as prisoners by the staff and students of the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The commission said that some people attacked the operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Command while they were at a school. This happened on Tuesday when they were checking on someone named Azeez Kazeem Oluwakemi. The commission shared this information on its website.

The people were at the college to check if Oluwakemi’s address and identity were real. Oluwakemi promised to take responsibility for Alakinde Khalid Kolawole, who is suspected of doing internet scams and is being held by the Commission.

A surety verification exercise is something that law enforcement does to make sure that a suspect is following the rules of their bail. This fact caused the EFCC’s agents to go to the college.

“The college students and staff suddenly started attacking the EFCC operatives for reasons that were hard to understand,” the statement said.

The commission said that this happened even though the college community was properly told about the mission of the EFCC’s team.

The president of the college’s student union, along with his friends and some staff members, started a fight with the EFCC.

Two big gates at the college were blocked with a car that might belong to one of the teachers.

The bus that took people to the college got damaged when students and staff threw rocks and dangerous things at it.

“A team of rescuers successfully freed seven people who were being held hostage by a rowdy crowd,” it said.

The commission said that it was important to mention that its workers showed self-control when faced with an unexpected attack and chose not to fight back against the aggressive attackers.

No one from the college, like students or staff, got shot. The people with guns just shot up into the air to make the rowdy crowd go away.

The Commission wants to make sure everyone knows that they will keep doing their job like they’re supposed to. They won’t put up with any more attacks on their people for no reason.
