The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stringent 24-hour ultimatum to Farouk Adejoh, the spokesperson of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, demanding substantiation of his claims implicating Commissioner of Police Bethrand Onuoha in the recruitment of thugs for a political party. The ultimatum was communicated by SP William Ovye Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command.

Aya condemned Adejoh’s allegations as a direct affront to the integrity and authority of the Nigerian Police Force, emphasizing the non-partisan nature of the Police Command and its primary mandate of protecting lives and property. The police spokesperson urged Adejoh to provide evidence for his accusations or face consequences.

“The Police Command doesn’t belong to any political party. Our responsibility is to protect lives and property, a mandate we have protected without fear or favour,” stated SP William Ovye Aya.

Aya clarified the police response to a recent protest at the State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), highlighting the Commissioner of Police’s swift deployment of officers to restore order.

“How the operation that restored peace at the INEC Office has infuriated the Social Democratic Party is what we don’t understand. The protesters who blocked the road and were burning tires to scare people were all wearing the fez caps of the Social Democratic Party,” Aya added.
