According to reports, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his decision to run for president in 2023.

Osinbajo is said to have taken the decision when he met with President Muhammadu Buhari on New Year’s Day.

“The Vice-President did not want to go into the election year by obscuring a plan that the president had undoubtedly already known about,” an Aso Villa insider stated.

“On the other hand, he recognized that an immediate presidential support might not be so easy to come by.”

According to the individual who was present at the meeting, Mr Osinbajo stated that he was not attempting to ambush and railroad the president into backing him, and that he has long known that swaying the president’s support in his favor would need extraordinary courage.

“However, he would keep trying to see if he could obtain the president’s support,” the insider continued. “It’s intrinsically important.”

It is unknown when Mr Osinbajo decided to run for president, but sources say his chances of winning his principal’s support were harmed after he was allegedly caught discussing how Mr Buhari was unlikely to survive his presidency and boasting about how he would succeed him.

Another senior presidential official added, “The president has been in possession of an audio tape of the vice president talking about how he will seize power in a fashion similar to Goodluck Jonathan’s fluke.”

“That is why the majority of us who are loyal to the president oppose the vice president’s ambition.”

“The president encouraged some of us to think about our specific political interests,” the person stated.

“However, we all know his body language has been more than evident since he listened to the audio.”

“But he would continue to make efforts to see if he could get the president’s backing nonetheless,” the source added. “It is inherently crucial.”

It remained unclear when Mr Osinbajo first decided to contest for president, but sources said his chances of getting his principal’s support became complicated after he was allegedly recorded discussing how Mr Buhari was not likely to make it through his presidency and gloated about how he would succeed him.

“The president has been in possession of an audio recording of the vice-president talking about how he will gain power in the manner similar to Goodluck Jonathan’s fluke,” another senior presidency official said.

“That is why most of us loyal to the president are not supporting the vice-president’s ambition.”

“The president told some of us to consider our political interest individually,” the source added.

“But we all know his body language since he listened to the tape has been more than clear.”
