Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has said that after seeing President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, he advised Sunday Igboho on his activities.
He claimed that Igboho failed to heed the president’s warning because of bad advise.
If Igboho had heeded the warning, according to the Ooni of Ife, he would not be in this predicament.
In an interview with BBC Yoruba, the king revealed the information.
Instead of listening to the warnings, Igboho hurled insults at traditional authorities, according to the Ooni of Ife.
“Many people advised him wrongly. He listened to them. He started abusing everyone, including monarchs.
“After I left President Buhari’s place, I called on monarchs and elders of Yoruba land for a meeting to advise Igboho to exercise patience but he got carried away by the praises of those who were not even solidly behind him.
“He hurled so many bad words but he is still our son. God owns forgiveness. We’ve forgiven him. If he had listened, he wouldn’t have found himself in his current travail,” he said.
After his attempt to get to Germany was thwarted, Igboho is being held in the Benin Republic.
He had fled Nigeria and was apprehended and imprisoned in Cotonou.
After the Department of State Services (DSS) declared him wanted for guns found in his home, the agitator and his wife fled Nigeria.
