Emmanuel ‘Meme’ Kanu, a brother of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has narrated how his sibling was allegedly tortured while being transferred from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that on June 27, 2021, Kanu was arrested in controversial circumstances in Kenya by Interpol and extradited to Nigeria where he is currently facing treason trial. Kenyan High Commissioner Wilfred Machage (now late) stated that Kenyan authorities had not been involved in the arrest of Kanu, and challenged anyone to present evidence proving otherwise.

Since June 2021, he has been arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja, several times, with his next trial date set for April.

Speaking after a routine visit to Nnamdi Kanu, Emmanuel explained on his known Facebook page on Monday night: “Today he (Nnamdi Kanu) said things I never knew he passed through. Do you know Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was blind folded for nearly 5hours from Kenya to Nigeria ?Do you know upon arrival he was blind folded from Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport Abuja to Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) for 2 days before bringing him to court and remained blind folded while in court ? Do you know throughout his flight duration he was handcuffed and his 2 legs chained to the point that blood wasn’t flowing?

“Do you finally know an assault rifle was pointed at the back of his head while he was being taken to NIA detention facility? In all of these things he has remained determined and focused just for our freedom. IPOB leader must be free.”
