The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a statement accusing prominent politicians, businessmen, and traditional rulers from the southern region of actively working against the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The group claims its intelligence team uncovered a list of individuals allegedly hindering Kanu’s freedom.

According to IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, those implicated in obstructing Kanu’s release include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, billionaire businessman Sir Emeka Offor, and Governors Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, and Hope Uzodimma from Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states, respectively. Former Governor Rochas Okorocha, oil magnate Arthur Eze, and traditional ruler HRH Cletus Ilomuanya are also named.

Powerful warned that the listed individuals should be held responsible if Kanu does not regain his freedom after the anticipated Supreme Court ruling on December 15, 2023. The statement alleges that some individuals in the region, claiming to be millionaires and politicians, initiated the idea to keep Kanu in detention.

The IPOB called on Biafrans and its members worldwide to hold the named individuals accountable for any harm to Kanu. Additionally, the group appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Supreme Court not to succumb to pressure to keep Kanu in prison, stating that some of these individuals played active roles in Kanu’s detention.
