Ibrahim Gaidam’s journey in public service began with his educational foundation. He attended Borno Teachers’ College (BTC) in Maiduguri, where he obtained a Teachers’ Certificate. Later, he pursued higher education at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, earning a Diploma in Accountancy in 1983. Gaidam’s thirst for knowledge led him back to Ahmadu Bello University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy in 1990. Public Service Career
Gaidam’s public service career started in various government ministries in the old Borno State, which later became Yobe State. He held positions such as assistant director of Finance in the Directorate of Foods, Roads, and Rural Infrastructure, as well as acting Director of Finance and Supplies in the Yobe Information and Culture Ministry. In 1995, he left the civil service to serve as the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, followed by a role as the Commissioner of Commerce and Industries.
Gaidam’s commitment to public service led him back to the civil service, where he served as a Director in the State Finance Ministry from 1997 to 2007. He also held the position of Permanent Secretary in various other ministries, showcasing his administrative capabilities and dedication to efficient governance.

In April 2007, Ibrahim Gaidam made his entry into politics by being elected as the Deputy Governor of Yobe State on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform. He was sworn into office on May 29, 2007, and later became the Executive Governor of Yobe State on January 27, 2009, following the unfortunate death of Governor Mamman Bello Ali.
During his tenure as governor, Gaidam made significant strides in improving the state’s infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security. He prioritized the welfare of the people and implemented policies and programs to uplift the lives of Yobe State residents. Gaidam’s dedication to public service and effective governance earned him re-election for a second and third term as governor in 2011 and 2015, respectively.
