How I Lost My Sight While Solving Maths – Blind Student

Awka, Anambra state – Precious Mbajiorgu, a visually-impaired student, recently shared the story of how she lost her sight while solving mathematics questions. The 28-year-old was honored by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for being the best candidate in the physical disability category in the 2002 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In an interview with The Punch, Mbajiorgu, currently an undergraduate at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), revealed that she was not born blind. She had perfect vision until the age of 11 when an incident in her primary school changed her life forever.

Mbajiorgu recalled the fateful day, which occurred between 2007 and 2008, during her time as a pupil at Awada Primary School in Obosi, near Onitsha. She and her classmates were in the classroom, working on mathematics problems on the board. She had just answered the first math question and was about to proceed to the next when suddenly, she realized she could no longer see the board or anything else around her. Darkness engulfed her.
