In a heart-wrenching scene captured on video, a widow and her three children were left in a desperate state after the mother fainted due to hunger while walking through the bustling Oja Oba Iso Ololubo market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The widow, who had not eaten for four days, was surrounded by sympathetic onlookers who donated money and offered food to the family.
The widow, who hails from Amuloko in Ibadan, had come to the market to purchase a bag of sachet water on credit, but the family’s dire circumstances left them unable to afford even the most basic necessities.
The eldest child, a girl, explained that they had not eaten for four days and that their mother had instructed them to carry water and sell it to raise money for food.
The eldest child of the widow, a girl, explained in Yoruba, “We’ve not eaten for four days.
“My mother said all of us should come to carry water and sell it so that we can find money to eat. We were walking from home, and she fell down here.”
