Governor Fubara Takes Action As 27 Lawmakers Defects To APC

Port Harcourt, Rivers State: In response to the escalating political turmoil, Governor Siminalayi Fubara convened an emergency meeting with members of the State Executive Council on Monday. The urgent session, presided over by Governor Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt, addresses the ongoing crisis in the state.

The meeting gains significance in the aftermath of a failed attempt by lawmakers to impeach the governor, a few weeks ago. The political unrest took a more sinister turn when the Assembly complex was set ablaze by unidentified individuals.

The current emergency meeting is directly linked to the recent defection of 27 members out of the 32-member House of Assembly. This mass defection, moving from the governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), adds a new layer to the existing political impasse.

The defection has intensified the longstanding political conflict between Governor Fubara and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
