ECOWAS Reacts Over Coup In Sierra Leone

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly condemned the attempted coup that took place in the capital city of Sierra Leone on Sunday morning, marked by heavy gunshots in Cockrill Barracks.

Expressing utter disgust at the plot to disrupt the peace and constitutional order, ECOWAS, in a statement, called for the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this illegal act. The regional body reiterated its zero-tolerance for any unconstitutional change of government.

In light of the ongoing tense situation in Freetown, where a curfew has been imposed by the Sierra Leone Government, ECOWAS expressed its commitment to supporting Sierra Leone in deepening democracy, fostering good governance, consolidating peace and security, and promoting socio-economic development.
