Breaking News: NECO Releases 2023 SSCE External Results, Records 67.35% Success

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has unveiled the results for the 2023 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) external, with an impressive 67.35% of candidates achieving five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.

NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, made the announcement at the NECO headquarters in Minna, highlighting that the results were released just 67 days after the last paper. Over 8,518 candidates faced result withholding due to various forms of examination malpractices, a 25% reduction from the previous year.

In a bid to enhance efficiency, NECO introduced the e-Posting Software designed to address issues related to posting the Council’s staff for out-of-station assignments.

Candidates can access their results on the official NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration number.

The total number of candidates who registered for the examination was 74,950, with 52.31% male and 47.68% female. Of the candidates that sat for the exam, 52.28% were male, and 47.71% were female.

Key result statistics include:

  • Candidates with five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics: 67.35%
  • Candidates with five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics: 84.11%
  • Candidates who sat for English Language: 73,124, with 75.59% obtaining Credit and above.
  • Candidates who sat for Mathematics: 73,119, with 92.75% obtaining Credit and above.

Professor Wushishi also highlighted a significant decrease in malpractice cases, revealing that only 8,518 candidates were implicated, compared to 11,419 in 2022. Notably, the malpractice cases involved two centres, one each in Kaduna and Ogun States, while two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos States were blacklisted for poor supervision.

The introduction of the e-Posting Software aims to streamline the staff posting process, providing transparency and minimizing lopsidedness and favoritism. Staff will receive notifications at the beginning of each year regarding eligible assignments and their respective locations.
