Bauchi Woman Freed After 19 Months In Prison For Condemning Killing Of Deborah Samuel

After spending 19 months in prison for condemning the killing of a Christian student, Samuel Deborah, in Sokoto State, Rhoda Jatau regains freedom following interventions from civil society organizations, family, and religious bodies.

Jatau’s bail application, presented by her lawyer Joseph Danboyi, was granted by Justice Fatima Jibrin of a Bauchi high court. Released immediately, Rhoda has left Bauchi for Gombe State.

Initially detained on May 20, 2022, at her residence by the Nigerian Police Force on charges of alleged incitement and inciting public disturbance, Jatau faced multiple bail denials until the recent court ruling.
