On Tuesday evening, gunmen allegedly killed Kelvin Ezeoha, the Enugu State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, and another person.

The gunmen, who are said to have attacked a meeting of members of the party’s Ward 3 Obeagu Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government chapter, also kidnapped another person whose identity is unknown.

According to sources, the meeting was being held to reconcile members of the party’s two factions when a group of gun-wielding men stormed the venue, killing two party members instantly and whisking away one other person.

For years, the APC’s Enugu State chapter has been in turmoil over the party’s leadership.

All hopes of resolving the crisis during the ward, local, and state congresses, however, were dashed when two opposing leaderships emerged at the conclusion of the exercise.

While Ugochukwu Agbala, a former State Commissioner for Works, was elected chairman of the faction led by Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adolphus Ude was elected factional chairman of the group led by Dr Ben Nwoye, former Chairman.

“Some gunmen invaded the Enugu South LGA APC meeting on Tuesday evening while their meeting was in progress and opened fire on the party members,” said Mr Sunday Olinya, a party chieftain who confirmed the incident to The PUNCH on Wednesday morning.

“They killed the immediate past Enugu South Local Government Chairman of the party, now the incumbent state youth leader, Mr. Kelvin Ezeoha, and one other person, while a party member was kidnapped.”

Efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, on the development were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls.
