Human Rights activist and Chairman of the International Society for Human Rights and Rule of Law (Inter-society), Emeka Umeagbalasi, has stirred controversy by demanding the immediate sacking and a lifetime ban from holding public offices for Minister Nyesom Wike. The call comes in the wake of an award bestowed upon Umeagbalasi by the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, recognizing his contributions to engendering rule of law and human rights in South-East Nigeria.
Umeagbalasi, dedicating the award to the victims of the ‘Obigbo Massacre’ in 2020, asserted that Wike, along with 12 other key perpetrators, initiated and supervised heinous crimes in Obigbo. The activist urged not only Wike’s dismissal but also a lifetime ban from holding public offices, coupled with a permanent denial of entry visas into Western World and other advanced democracies.
In a statement released on Sunday, Umeagbalasi presented a new international report titled: “Inside Nyesom Wike’s Bloody Era In Obigbo (Rivers State): Oct 21-Nov 10, 2020”. The report alleges that the invasion and deadly use of force were prompted by Wike’s State-wide broadcast on October 21, 2020, where he invited the Nigerian Army to “flush out IPOB terrorists in the area who killed six soldiers and four policemen and burned police stations.”
