Igbo Leaders Disown Wike & Amaechi

Those pushing for power to shift to the Southeast made themselves clear yesterday that “only Igbos from the region will be recognized and backed for the top job”.

They insisted that the likes of Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike and his predecessor and Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, despite their alleged claims to Igbo affiliation, are from the Southsouth, which has had a shot at the presidency through Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

No Igbo from the Southsouth can claim to represent the Southeast, they said.

Atiku, Saraki, Obi, Others Set For Screening

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will on Friday begin the screening of the 17 aspirants jostling for the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election.

A former Senate President, Chief David Mark, is the chairman of a nine-member committee that will screen the aspirants.

Slated for screening are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Also to be screened are; a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Pius Anyim; Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed; Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike; and Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Court Orders CCT Chairman To Appear Before Senate For Alleged Misconduct

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed a suit by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Yakubu Umar seeking to stop the Senate from probing him on alleged misconduct.

The Court held that as a public officer administering law, he is answerable to the Senate on moral standards.

Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo, in a judgment in the suit, ordered the CCT boss to go and appear before the Senate and answer questions on a public petition brought against him by an aggrieved citizen.

Panel Issues Arrest Warrant On Police Commissioner Igbeh Ochogwu

A panel has issued a warrant of arrest on the commissioner of police (legal services, Force Headquarters), CP Igbeh Ochogwu, regarding the alleged unlawful arrest and disappearance of John Alozie since June 25, 2017.

The Independent Investigation Panel on Human Rights Violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other units of the Nigeria Police on Monday is investigating alleged violations of human rights.

Biden Congratulates Macronk

The United States President Joe Biden has congratulated the newly re-elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

Biden congratulated Macron on Monday after a first attempt to call him failed because the French leader was out celebrating his victory.
