Shuaibu Abubakar Audu: Biography, Education, Professional Career And More

Shuaibu Abubakar Audu is a Nigerian investment banker and politician who currently serves as the Minister of Steel Development. He was born on November 6, 1980, in Kogi State, Nigeria, Audu has had a successful career in the financial sector before venturing into politics.

Shuaibu Abubakar Audu’s Early Life and Education

Audu was born to Abubakar Audu, a former Governor of Kogi State. He pursued his education both in Nigeria and abroad. He attended the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics in 2001. Later, he pursued further studies and earned a master’s degree from Henley Business School, University of Reading. In 2013, Audu completed his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Oxford, where he was a member of St Hugh’s College.

After completing his education, Audu joined Stanbic IBTC, a leading financial institution in Nigeria. He worked as an investment analyst in Lagos and later became an executive director of the bank’s assets management subsidiary. Audu’s expertise in investment banking and his dedication to his work led to his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Investment, a position he held for 10 years.

Political Aspirations

In addition to his successful career in the financial sector, Audu has also been actively involved in politics. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), one of Nigeria’s major political parties. In February 2023, Audu announced his intention to contest in the November 2023 Kogi State gubernatorial election under the APC. He participated in the governorship primaries of the Kogi State chapter of the party but unfortunately lost the gubernatorial ticket to Ahmed Ododo in April 2023.

Despite his loss in the gubernatorial primaries, Audu’s dedication to public service did not go unnoticed. In August 2023, he was appointed as the Minister of Steel Development by President Bola Tinubu. This appointment recognizes Audu’s expertise and experience in the financial sector and his potential to contribute to the development of the steel industry in Nigeria.

Shuaibu Audu comes from a political family, as his father, Abubakar Audu, was a former Governor of Kogi State. He is married and has children, balancing his professional and personal life.
