After long hours of voting, the list of Top 3 Contenders For PDP National Chairmanship position has been revealed.
The top 3 contenders for PDP National chairmanship post, originated from the geo-political zones as follows; North Central, North -East, and North-West.
According to sources, the national PDP chairman was zoned to the North, and important figures from different heo-political zones were to compete against each other.
North-West candidate; Ibrahim Shema, former Kaduna State Governor, got 6 out of 7 votes, defeating, Ahmed Makarfi with a total of 5 votes.
North-East candidate; The current PDP Deputy National Chairman Senator Suleman Nazif, who was unopposed.
North-Central; Mr. Iyorchia Ayu, former Senate President also unopposed.
There had been a lot of crisis in the People Democratic Party over the zoning of the upcoming general elections, the party has divided into factions, some rooting for the ticket to be zoned to the Nothern region, some want the ticket to be zoned to the Southern region, while some have no belief in zoning.
The voting process and results were announced by Governor, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, after five-hour stakeholders that were held in Benue State Governors House.
The meeting was attended by some notable figures like; David Mark, Olubukola Saraki, Iyorchia Ayu (All past senate presidents), Idris Ibrahim, Kola Ologbondiyan, Babangida Aliyu, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and others.
Ortom said after this voting stage, all the Northern Geo-Political zones would elect a candidate to become the PDP National Chairman, on October 30.
