Revealed: Why November Salaries Of Over 2,000 FG Workers Are Withheld

The November 2023 salaries of more than 2,000 federal government workers who have been withheld was due to issues arising from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). This revelation comes after the recent verification exercise conducted by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), where discrepancies in workers’ records led to the withholding of salaries.

According to sources, the OHCSF verification process flagged discrepancies in the records of numerous civil servants, resulting in the withholding of their November salaries.

A senior civil servant from the Federal Ministry of Defence, speaking anonymously in line with Public Service Rules, stated that a considerable portion of the ministry’s workforce experienced delays in salary disbursement.

The spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, acknowledged the salary processing had begun but emphasized that not all civil servants were affected. Mokwa promised to provide additional information after consulting with the director of IPPIS.

Tommy Etim, the National President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, assured that the OHCSF was actively addressing the discrepancies. He noted that while those affected might miss their November salaries, efforts were underway to ensure they receive their December salaries along with any arrears once the verification process concludes.

Etim appealed to the government to expedite the resolution of these discrepancies, emphasizing the importance of timely salary disbursement for affected civil servants.
