Nigerian skitmaker and activist, Mr. Macaroni, has taken to social media to challenge Femi Gbajabiamila’s recent statement that social media is a societal menace that must be regulated.
Mr. Macaroni shared tweets from Gbajabiamila’s handle dating back to March 2014, in which he referred to the government of the day as “Vagabonds” and “Barbarians.”
He questioned whether social media was not a menace then when Gbajabiamila used such terms on government officials.
Gbajabiamila, who is the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, made the statement at a book launch, stating that social media has the potential to reach millions of people around the world, causing great danger not just in society but also unintended consequences to individuals receiving information, including security of life.

As many people do not understand that once the send button is hit, there is a potential to reach millions of people around the world which is capable of causing a great danger not just in the society but even unintended consequences to the individuals that are receiving information which may include security of life.”
