Patients Flee As NANS Faction Attacks National Hospital Abuja

Pandemonium erupted at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday when a faction of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) stormed the facility to attack two injured members from another faction. The violent clash forced several patients to flee their wards.

The confrontation arose from a previous clash between the NANS factions, leading to injuries and hospitalization. Police intervention was necessary to restore order, with officers deployed to the Central Area, where the hospital is located.

Reports indicate that a fight had initially broken out between the two NANS factions on Thursday, escalating into violent attacks on Friday. The injured members were taken to the National Hospital for medical care, prompting the opposing faction to launch an attack at the hospital.

In a related development, the Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted NANS members on Thursday, recovering two pump-action guns and cartridges from them on their way to a convention.

The aftermath of the attack left major roads deserted, and police cordoned off sections of the highway leading to the International Conference Centre (ICC) and the National Hospital. Dr Tayo Haastrup, the National Hospital spokesperson, confirmed the attack, stating that intruders aimed to assault the injured members undergoing treatment.
