Early Life And Education
Mary Uranta’s roots trace back to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, where she had a joyous upbringing in a large family. Despite being born into a Pentecostal Christian family, she attended Roman Catholic schools, including Sacred Heart Nursery And Primary School, and later Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School. Her interest in dancing and stage-acting blossomed during her time at Holy Rosary, earning her a Dance and Drama scholarship upon graduation.
While aspiring to pursue a course aligned with her dream career in acting, Mary enrolled at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, ultimately studying Secretarial Administration. She also participated in the Miss Niger Delta contest, achieving the first runner-up position.
Acting Career
Uranta’s foray into acting commenced with a minor role in the film “Girls Hostel” in 2000, directed by Ndubisi Okoh and co-starring Uche Jombo. Notably, she won the role after her initial audition. Subsequently, she appeared in films like “Paul and Silas,” “War of Roses,” “Silver Spoon,” and “Church Committee” before taking a brief hiatus to complete her education.
In 2006, she marked a significant milestone with a prominent role in the Nollywood movie “Secret Mission,” where she portrayed Ngozi Ezeonu’s younger sister. This paved the way for more roles in films such as “Tea or Coffee,” “Tears of a Princess,” “Baits of Doom,” “The Professionals,” and others.
Mary Uranta furthered her education by obtaining a postgraduate diploma in Theatre from the London School of Arts Academy. In recognition of her contributions to Nollywood, she received the African Youth Ambassador Award in October 2011. The following year, she earned a Best of Nollywood Award nomination for her role in the film “Mistress.”
