The Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti, and all Labour Party flagbearers in Abia and Kano States have had their candidatures nullified by a Federal High Court in Kano State.
The ruling was made by Justice M N Yunusa, who stated that their emergence was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act. The ruling was made in response to a suit filed by Mr Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The judge held that a party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot have a candidate in an election and cannot be declared the winner of an election.
The failure of the Labour Party to submit its membership register to the INEC within 30 days before their primaries rendered the process invalid.
