Jerry Amilo was born on July 21, 1970, in Anambra State, Nigeria. He hails from Enugu-Ukwu in Anambra state and is the youngest child in a family that strongly adheres to the Catholic faith. He completed his primary and secondary education in Enugu state before pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Jerry Amilo’s acting journey began in 1986 when he joined his church’s drama unit. He received training in performing biblical characters, honing his skills and perfecting his craft. After relocating to Lagos, Surulere, his acting career took off and expanded. He started by acting in local dramas and even ventured into the music industry, particularly hip-hop. Jerry Amilo worked with various artists and even served as the manager for renowned actress Christie Essien, also known as “Nigeria’s Lady of Songs.”

While traveling from Enugu to Lagos for the “Reels Award,” his car’s front tire came off, causing a serious accident. His lawyer, who was with him in the car, tragically passed away, and Jerry Amilo was left with scars on his face. The accident kept him hospitalized for two years, and he even found himself in a mortuary for three days before waking up miraculously.

Apart from his acting career, Jerry Amilo played a significant role in the development of the Nigerian film industry. He was among the pioneers who helped establish the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in Delta State. Together with a few other actors and actresses, he formed a branch of the guild in Warri, Delta State. However, the AGN chapter was later moved to Asaba by the former Governor of Delta State, Mr. James Ibori. Jerry Amilo inaugurated the first AGN in Delta at a joint called Giddy’s place, solidifying his commitment to promoting the interests of actors in the region.
