Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who rose to prominence after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa. Born on October 31, 1986, in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, Iyanya has left an indelible mark on the music industry with his distinctive style and hit songs like “Kukere.” This overview delves into his early life, education, career milestones, and notable achievements.

Early Life And Education

Iyanya’s journey began on Palm Street in Calabar, where his mother served as a headmistress, and his father worked as a forester. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 2008 when both of his parents and his older brother passed away. Despite these challenges, Iyanya’s early exposure to music in his grandfather’s church choir ignited his passion for the art form. He completed his primary, secondary, and university education in Calabar, graduating with a degree in Business Management from the University of Calabar.

After completing his education, Iyanya worked in a hotel while honing his vocal skills by performing karaoke at local bars, including Fiesta Fries Bar, Mirage Nite Club, and West-Life. Inspired by the celebrity lifestyle of artists like 2 Face Idibia and Olu Maintain, Iyanya transitioned from being a rapper known as “Lofty” to pursuing a professional music career.

In 2008, encouraged by KCee from KC Presh, Iyanya auditioned for the first season of Project Fame West Africa. His exceptional talent propelled him to victory, marking the beginning of his musical journey.
