INEC Chairman Will Be In Jail In 14 Days – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a stark warning, asserting that in four days, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, will face imprisonment for contempt of court.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, APGA’s National Chairman, Edozie Njoku, revealed that the court had already directed INEC Chairman Mahmood to recognize him as the National Chairman, and failure to comply would result in imprisonment.

Njoku emphasized the significance of Nigerians standing by the judiciary to protect it from individuals compromising justice and tarnishing its integrity. He stated that the return to court on November 29, 2023, would lead to the sentencing of Mahmood and others for disregarding the court’s order.

Recalling a previous incident on November 9, 2023, where Chief Victor Oye accused Mahmood of forging a Supreme Court judgment, Njoku highlighted that the court had found Mahmood and Oye culpable but granted a 14-day window for compliance or facing jail time.

“Today is November 24, 2023. That is, 5 days away from November 29, 2023, the adjourned date for Mahmood to be sent to jail.

“By its judgment, the Court found Mahmood and Oye culpable, but out of leniency gave them a 14-day window to purge themselves or prepare for jail.

“Rather than do the needful, INEC led by Yakubu Mahmood in collaboration with Oye, headed to the Appeal Court, boasting that they have procured enough Judges to ensure that the contempt charge dangling over their heads end up as an exercise in futility.

“However, there are far-reaching implications to INEC’s posturing and grandstanding. It signals an internment to competent Court orders in Nigeria.

“INEC led by Mahmood, simply wants to prove to the world that it has immunity..”
