Full List Of States That Failed To Generate Revenue From Local Governments In 2022

In 2022, seven states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reported a failure to generate revenue from their Local Government Areas (LGAs), according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Out of the 36 states, only 29 succeeded in generating revenue from their local governments.

The states that failed to generate revenue from LGAs in 2022 include Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, and Katsina.

Among the 29 states that successfully generated revenue, Oyo led with N11.8 billion, followed closely by Lagos with N11.5 billion. Jigawa, Rivers, and Edo secured the third, fourth, and fifth positions, generating revenues of N8.7 billion, N2.5 billion, and N2.4 billion, respectively.

Conversely, Akwa Ibom reported the lowest revenue from local government, with N55.2 million, followed by Ebonyi with N58.9 million. Other states recording relatively low revenue included Imo (N65.6 million), Borno (N66.7 million), and Kogi (N89.8 million).
