Abdalla Uba Adamu was born on April 25, 1956, in Daneji, Kano city, Kano State, Abdalla Uba Adamu embarked on an academic journey that would shape his multifaceted career. He received his undergraduate B.Sc. degree in Education, Biology, and Physiology from Ahmadu Bello University in 1979. Following this, he completed his National Youth Service, teaching Biology and Agricultural Science in a high school in Umoarkrika, Imo State.

Adamu began his academic career as the first Graduate Assistant in Science Education at Bayero University Kano in July 1980. He furthered his studies by pursuing an M.A. in Science Education at Chelsea College, University of London, from 1982 to 1983. Inspired by the theories of Karl Popper, particularly falsification and conjectures and refutations, he incorporated these concepts into his teaching and developed courses on the History and Philosophy of Science.

In 1988, Adamu returned to Bayero University after completing his D.Phil. in Science Education at Sussex University. His doctoral research, titled “Science, schooling, and manpower production in Nigeria: a study of Kano state science secondary schools, 1977-1987,” explored the role of Science Education policies in national development. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including Head of the Department of Education and Director of Management Information Systems at Bayero University.

One of Adamu’s notable contributions is his work on the development of the Hausa language in the modern era. In the 1990s, he developed the “hooked” Hausa language character font sets (ɓ Ɓ ɗ Ɗ ƙ Ƙ), which were not present in word processors at the time. These characters, named ‘rabi’at’ and ‘abdalla,’ have since become essential in representing the unique phonetics of the Hausa language.
