Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu was born into the ruling family of Owu Kingdom. His father, Prince Benjamin Okelana Dosunmu, was a member of the lineage of late Adesunmbo Dosunmu, Amororo I, who reigned from 1918 to 1924. Dosunmu received his primary education at Owu Baptist Day School in Abeokuta and later attended Baptist Boys High School, where he obtained the West African Senior School Certificate. He furthered his education at King’s College, Lagos, and pursued Drama and Television Production at Hendon College of Technology in London. In 1987, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Landmark Baptist College in Tennessee, USA.
Career In Broadcasting And Film Production
After completing his education, Dosunmu joined the Nigerian Civil Service as a Clerk Grade II at the Nigerian Railway Corporation. He later transitioned to the broadcasting industry, where he excelled in the field of drama. Dosunmu served as the Head of Drama Department at both a broadcasting organization and the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation. He gained widespread recognition as the producer of the popular Nigerian TV soap, “The Village Headmaster,” which became the longest-running popular TV series in Nigeria, spanning over 20 years. In 1975, Dosunmu established his own private film production outfit, Starline Films Limited, and directed the acclaimed Nigerian movie, “Dinner with the Devil,” featuring renowned actor Enebeli Elebuwa.
Political Career
In addition to his contributions to the entertainment industry, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu ventured into politics. In 1976, he was elected as the Chairman of Abeokuta Local Government, showcasing his commitment to public service and community development.
