16 Nigerian Politicians Who Paid For Twitter Verification Badge
Twitter Removes Verification Badges of Nigerian Politicians Who Failed to Pay for Verification
Twitter, a popular microblogging platform, has removed the verification badges of some Nigerian politicians and other users who failed to pay for the verification service. The mass removal of the blue tick has affected notable politicians, journalists, celebrities, Non-Governmental Organisations, and others. This comes after the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, announced in April that users with free verified Twitter accounts would lose their verification badges if they failed to pay for the service. Some Nigerian politicians, however, have subscribed to Twitter Blue, which costs $8 monthly and $84 yearly, to maintain their verified status.
A list of Nigerian politicians who paid for Twitter verification has been compiled based on checks on their Twitter handles. The list includes;
- President Muhammadu Buhari
- Festus Keyamo
- Femi Fani-Kayode
- Dino Melaye
- Abubakar Bukola Saraki
